Crawford Moves Up . . .
|
Jan Lammers, Tony Stewart and Johnny Mowlem
moved up to fifth place overall in the Daytona 24 Hours as the round the clock
race reached the quarter distance mark. Charging up the field, Lammers set what
is thus far the fastest lap of the race at 1min 42.078s.
After stepping from the car Lammers said
“We had to start pushing to try to make up for the lost time, but the car felt
very good and I am happy with the progress we made.”
Johnny Mowlem is now at the wheel of the No2
car and starting to close on the 4th placed car, the Ascari-Judd of
Werner Lupberger, TJ Bell and Harri Toivonen.
The battle for the lead between the Risi
Ferrari and the JMR Riley & Scott came to an end during the fifth hour when
the Italian machine suffered a gearbox failure and had to go behind the wall for
a replacement.
Nevertheless the Daytona 24 Hours is still proving a
fascinating race with the lead three cars all separated by less than 30 seconds.
Back in the lead is the Doran Racing Dallara Judd of Theys/Papis/Baldi/Leinhard,
ahead of the Smith/Matthews/Sharp/Gordon R &S Judd and the
Field/Durand/Dayton/Sutherland Lola-Judd.
