Crawford
Fights Back to 7th . . .
Jan Lammers, Tony
Stewart and Johnny Mowlem driving the No2 Crawford SSC2K-Judd are back into
seventh place in the Rolex 24 at Daytona as the race entered the fifth hour.
A strong double
stint by Tony Stewart, punctuated by a spin, and then a high speed stint by
diminutive Dutchman Jan Lammers has brought the car racing back through the
field and back into contention.
The car is still
five laps behind the leaders but has been lapping as fast as the lead two cars
– the Risi Ferrari and the JMR Riley& Scott which continued to fight for
the lead. The battle made for some spectacular television on Speedvision.
After his double
stint former IRL Champion and last year’s Winston Cup runner-up said “This
racing is so challenging, I made the odd mistake. I hope I am not letting the
team down. This is so different to the racing I am used to – but I am
enjoying.”
Team boss Max
Crawford commented, “After our early hiccup, the car is running well and I am
pleased we are back in contention. But there’s a long long way to go.
But we are not
watching the people in front, there
are quick cars behind like the No16 Dyson of James Weaver, Butch Leitzinger and
Oliver Gavin to watch for.
News just coming
through that Jan Lammers in the Crawford has just recorded the fastest lap of
then race.
The JMR R & S
leads from the Risi Ferrari, the Jon Field led Lola with the Doran Dallara
fourth and the Ascari-Judd in fifth place.
