Crawford
in Crash Scare . . .
The
Crawford SSC2K survived a major scare ten hours into the Rolex 24 at Daytona
when Jan Lammers was pushed off into the turn one wall at the re-start
after a yellow flag period. Lammers had to limp the car back to the pits where
the Crawford crew spent just 11m 24 s changing the front nose box and the left
front steering arm.
After
the setback, Lammers returned to the race track in sixth place but has since
climbed back to fifth position.
In
a remarkable performance, the Banana Joe sponsored Lola-Judd of gentleman
drivers Jon Field/Mike Durand/Duncan Dayton/Rick Sutherland leads the field by a
lap from the Dallara-Judd of the Doran team driven by Mauro Baldi, Max Papis/Didier
Theys/Freddy Leinhard.
Now
in third place is the leading SRP2 Risi/Rand Racing Lola-Nissan of Anthony
Lazzaro/Bill Rand/Terry Borcheller/Ralf Kelleners. Fourth and leading the GTS
category is the Canadian Porsche 911GT1 of David Empringham/Klaus Bytzek/Richard
Spenard/James Holton.
The
Crawford is however closing in on the Porsche. Jan Lammers currently double
stinting the car in this eleventh hour of the race.
